Departing Tamarindo early, your adventure to Río Celeste begins in Tenorio Volcano National Park. Your private guide leads you through lush rainforest filled with birds, monkeys, and exotic plants on a one-hour hike to the striking Río Celeste waterfall, which plunges into a vivid turquoise pool surrounded by emerald-green forest.
Mist rising from the base creates a mystical atmosphere, while the dense canopy frames the falls with vines and tropical foliage. The river’s distinctive blue color comes from natural mineral reactions. After the hike, enjoy a traditional Costa Rican lunch at a local restaurant. A Costa Rica Safari Adventure
Discover a hint of Africa in Costa Rica, with wide-open pastureland and safari-style wildlife encounters—Ponderosa Adventure Park, near Liberia, is a private safari and adventure park that blends African savannah–inspired wildlife with nature-based activities—a unique hybrid of zoo, safari park, and outdoor adventure destination.
Your safari tour travels by tram-style wagon through open areas where giraffes, zebras, ostriches, antelopes, Watusi, and other exotic animals roam, with opportunities to feed giraffes and zebras. Guaitil Village Pottery Demonstration Less than an hour from Tamarindo, Guaitil is a Chorotega Indigenous village known for its centuries-old pottery tradition. Local artisans use natural clays and ancestral techniques to create pottery in earthy tones of red, cream, black, and ochre. In a third-generation potter’s studio, you’ll watch clay being shaped, painted with traditional Chorotega designs, and fired in a wood-burning kiln—an intimate, hands-on look at Indigenous craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
Nicoya Town Drop-in
Not far from our first stop of the day, Nicoya is a relaxed, traditional Guanacaste town that reflects the region’s deep Chorotega heritage. The historic center revolves around a colonial plaza with a whitewashed church, leafy parks, small shops, and sodas. Nicoya is home to one of Costa Rica’s oldest churches, the Parroquia San Blas, founded in 1644 and featuring a small museum of religious artifacts, with a well-tended central park shaded by large trees where locals gather to relax and enjoy the heart of town.
Diria Coffee Plantation Tour
Diría Coffee is a cooperative of small-scale farmers rooted in Costa Rica’s Chorotega heritage. On this behind-the-scenes tour, you’ll follow the coffee process from seed to cup, with an emphasis on tradition and sustainability, concluding with a freshly roasted coffee tasting. The tour offers a meaningful glimpse into rural Costa Rican life beyond the beaches and major tourist areas.

Beauty and the Beach:
A 3-Beach Pacific Coast Exploration
Costa Rica’s Pacific coast offers a mix of lively surf beaches and calm, swimmable bays, and this beach-focused excursion explores three standout spots. We begin at Playa del Coco, a relaxed fishing town with generally gentle waters ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, and beach walks, plus beachfront sodas perfect for lunch. In the afternoon, we visit Playa Panamá in Bahía Culebra, known for its exceptionally calm water and slate-gray sand—one of the area’s safest and quietest swimming beaches.
On the return to Tamarindo, we stop at Playa Hermosa, a tranquil and scenic beach famous for vibrant sunsets. Enjoy a Costa Rican–brewed beer at a beachfront bar as the sky fills with color—the perfect finale to a memorable day of beach-hopping.
Hiking into Nature:
Exploring Hacienda Guachipelín & Rincón de la Vieja National Park
Depart with an early morning pickup and enjoy a scenic drive as the Guanacaste Mountains lead to Hacienda Guachipelín, an eco-adventure resort and working cattle ranch near Rincón de la Vieja National Park. This adventure-packed excursion includes hiking with possible views of the active “Colossus of Guanacaste” volcano; you may spot iguanas, white-faced and howler monkeys, and tropical flora.
Cool off with a swim at the stunning Oropéndola Waterfall, reached via a short jungle hike and hanging bridge, with the option to swim up to the falls. The water is cold, but very refreshing. Conditions for entering the water vary based on season and rainfall activity. Enjoy a buffet-style Costa Rican lunch in the park, then relax at the Río Negro Hot Springs and volcanic mud baths, naturally heated by the nearby volcano. Return to Tamarindo in the late afternoon after a day of nature and adventure.

Run to Villareal
Some days you just need to pick up a few things. I can assist you with everyday needs like grocery shopping. Villareal is minutes away from Tamarindo.
We’ll have lunch at a local soda for a true Costa Rica food experience. Then we’ll drop into a great frutas y verduras market to pick up locally-sourced produce. We can also go to a local supermarket—whatever you need, we can go there.
